Here are a few things the Team Leaders should know for their seminar role:

  • Helping people log on & set up their wireless connection - some might be new to this process & your hands-on help is appreciated
  • Getting access & joining various websites, i.e. set up, username, etc
  • Small group learning & brainstorming technical projects
  • Visit http://nacadatech.net/
  • Share your web 2.0 expertise - either personal or professional; we all have something to contribute
  • Check out the written responses from the attending participant survey: http://nacadatech.net/2009/02/10/your-written-responses-to-survey-questions-12-15/
  • Have fun!

February 12th, 2009 by Laura Pasquini | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Here we are! It’s on. WELCOME EVERYONE.

Today we have a fun-filled day at the NACADA Tech Seminar. Although we are on the beach, we are all currently geeking out inside the Hilton. YAY!

For those of you snapping photos, be sure to join the NACADA Technology Seminar Group on Flickr. We would love to see what you are doing during the day and in the area.

Here are a few things to note for the day:

  • Registration Desk: name tag (for meal events), schedule & log-in code for wireless
  • Dinner group sign up sheets are at the registration desk
  • Meals will be served on the deck overlooking the Gulf (if it’s cold in the restaurant)
  • Be sure to keep your laptop juiced - outlets in the presentation rooms & plug-in over lunch (share!)

I will be e-mailing all attendees access to my Wiki site on Monday.

So please look for it in your in box.

Welcome to the Advising 2.0 Seminar Backchannel

February 5th, 2009 by Karen Thurmond | 2 Comments | Filed in Getting Started, How to...

Seems like a long time ago that Eric Stoller announced that this backchannel (you are reading a blog on the backchannel right now) was ready for us to begin using. For months we have been tinkering with blogs, twitter, definitions, and more. Now its your turn! The seminar begins when you make your first post here…but how will you do it? Start with Twitter!  Go to http://twitter.com and set up an account. If you already have an account, you don’t need to set up another one. You can direct tweets (that’s one nickname for a twitter post) to this site by beginning it  with (or including in it) the “hash tag” #nacadatech09 See the posts to the right for examples.

Welcome to the seminar!!!

getting started with Web 2.0

If you are just beginning to learn about the possibilities of Web 2.0 I highly recommend a blog that outlines work which helped expand my vision.

Getting Started with Web 2.0

The work of Mike Wesch at Kansas State has informed the higher education community over the last few years and helped us to think about the prospect of change in a digital age. But Wesch and his students have also permeated the web with their original work.

Take a Look at What is on The Horizon Report 2009

January 23rd, 2009 by Laura Pasquini | 1 Comment | Filed in Educause, News, Research & News, Web 2.0

The 2009 Horizon Report was released on January 20, 2009 at the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.  The annual Horizon Report, a joint publication of the New Media Consortium (NMC) and the ELI, highlights new technologies for teaching, learning, and creative expression. This collaborative effort between the NMC and the ELI identifies emerging technologies which will have an impact higher education over the next few years.

Not only does the Horizon Report overview the key technologies to come, it also provides examples and suggested readings for each technology.

Here are the latest & greatest emerging technologies included in the 2009 edition:

  • Mobiles (i.e., mobile devices)
  • Cloud Computing
  • Geo-Everything (i.e., geo-tagging)
  • The Personal Web
  • Semantic-Aware Applications
  • Smart Objects
Intrigued?  Well be sure to read more either via the web or PDF.

Question: How do YOU think these technologies will affect or apply to advising?
Discuss.

NACADA Tech on Delicious

November 30th, 2008 by Eric Stoller | 1 Comment | Filed in Web 2.0

Are you using Delicious? It’s okay if you aren’t, but let me explain why you should :-)

What is Delicious?

Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows users to tag, save, manage and share web pages from a centralized source. With emphasis on the power of the community, Delicious greatly improves how people discover, remember and share on the Internet.

Instead of bookmarking web addresses solely on your computer, now you can bookmark them using Delicious and access them on any computer that is connected to the Internet. I’ve found that I regularly use Delicious as a replacement to my cluttered and oft-forgotten Firefox bookmarks.

I’ll be sharing my Delicious bookmarks of items that I want to share with the NACADA Tech attendees at: http://delicious.com/ericstoller/nacada-tech
.
